A Guardian Ghost always sticks by their shaman partner, but what happens if you fail to protect the one you care for most?

{Shaman King/RotG cross-over}

Night-time, he’d known it was Winter elsewhere so he’d allowed Jack to leave to just have fun. The spirit always came back after all, he never left for more than a week, two weeks at most. Besides it was just the local graveyard, how much trouble could he really get into?

Turns out a lot. Yoh cried out in pain as he tripped and fell, tumbling down a hill. Jack here me! Come! Help! It was the first time he’d really summoned Jack while the other was away, but Yoh couldn’t stop, he tried to though, but a sickening crack as his back connected with a single tombstone and there boy lay there with glassy eyes as he stared up at the full moon, tears in eyes that were losing their light.

God it hurts… Did I break my spine…? My neck? I can’t tell.. Jack, I’m sorry. A tear rolled down his cheek as he laid there, hoping the pain would pass so he could join Jack even in death. He knew his friend was here as he forced himself to hold onto life. A light snowfall had started, he could heard the crunch of the leaves under the spirit’s feet. “J-Jack…" he choked out. "I’m… Sorry, see you soon.." he promised as eyes closed.

All Jack would find of the boy he’d held so dear is a corpse, but… Guilt would wrack the spirit as what had Yoh slipped on…? But ice where he normally sat to stargaze, losing his footing in his sandals. But true to his word, a new spirit had joined those of earth-bound spirits.

A young boy who stood over his own corpse, "Jack…?”
